A new way to attack Iran?

Can Israel use cyberwarfare to foil Iran's nuclear ambitions? Dan Williams of Reuters reports:

RAMAT HASHARON, Israel (Reuters) - In the late 1990s, a computer specialist from Israel's Shin Bet internal security service hacked into the mainframe of the Pi Glilot fuel depot north of Tel Aviv.

It was meant to be a routine test of safeguards at the strategic site. But it also tipped off the Israelis to the potential such hi-tech infiltrations offered for real sabotage.

"Once inside the Pi Glilot system, we suddenly realized that, aside from accessing secret data, we could also set off deliberate explosions, just by programing a re-route of the pipelines," said a veteran of the Shin Bet drill.

So began a cyberwarfare project which, a decade on, is seen by independent experts as the likely new vanguard of Israel's efforts to foil the nuclear ambitions of its arch-foe Iran.

The appeal of cyber attacks was boosted, Israeli sources say, by the limited feasibility of conventional air strikes on the distant and fortified Iranian atomic facilities, and by U.S. reluctance to countenance another open war in the Middle East.

"We came to the conclusion that, for our purposes, a key Iranian vulnerability is in its on-line information," said one recently retired Israeli security cabinet member, using a generic term for digital networks. "We have acted accordingly."

If Israel were to wait for the European “Union” to come to any practical decision about sanctions against Iran, those fanatical madmen over there would long have achieved their ambition: the annihilation of the State of Israel!
Cyberwarfare is possibly the only solution if we want not to be swept away from this Earth.

If Israel can wage cyberwarfare on Iran, what prevents Iran from waging that type of war on Israel?
Is it that Israel is so much more technologically advanced that they will defeat the towel heads without firing one shot?

Nice speculation, but Israel will launch a conventional air attack on Iran and then scurry back and hide behind it’s big brother, the US.

So what do you suggest?
Should the Israelis just sit there with their thumbs up their ass while these savages plot the annihilation of the Jewish home land.
It´s ok to kill Jews. What is unaceptable is for the Jews to defend themselves.
You would easily find work at the UN.

Victor: The first step would be to stop treating the Gaza Strip like the Warsaw Ghetto, thereby taking away Iran’s (and the terrorist’s) prime emotional issue. The second is to recognize that the atomic genie can never be put back in the bottle. You can delay but can’t stop Iran (or North Korea) from developing/obtaining nuclear weapons. The best you can do is to make it clear that any nuclear attack, in any form, that originates in Iran will bring a massive nuclear attack by the US that will be the end of Iran. This promise will get the Russians and other Mid-East nations actively involved in restraining Iran. It worked with the “evil” Soviet Union for 50 years.

Israel evacuated Gaza voluntarily in 2005 and left behind infrastructure meant to be used by the Paleatinians as an initial building block for their economy. Shortly after, Hamas routed Fatah and turned Gaza into a rocket launching pad and a ghetto.
The muslim´s prime emotional issue is not Gaza, but the very existence of Israel itself. They are obsessed with the concept of deislamization. According to them a land that was once conquered by Islam must forever remain Islamic. I refer you to Andalucia which according to them must be reislamized.
Regarding the atomic genie, Israel is too small to be able to absorb a first strike. If, as you say, the best you can do is warn Iran that if a nuclear attack is launched by them, it will carry dire consequences, you can kiss Israel goodbye. This is totally unacceptable.
Irael is not the one who has been vociferous about wiping Iran off the face of the earth. Iran has been the provocateur.
You cannot compare the former Soviet Union with Iran. With all of its faults, the USSR was run responsibly regarding the “balance of terror.” During the Cuban missile crisis Khrushchev backed off when the world was on the brink of a nuclear holocaust.
The same cannot be said about the mullahs. They´re the ones who continue to spout jihad, and the reward of 72 virgins for martyrs who die for the cause of Islam. If you believe a nuclear Iran can be trusted, I know for sure you will be hired by the UN.
