‘No further threat’ from Bronx terror plot
The Secure Community Network, which coordinates security for Jewish institutions, says there is "no further threat to any Jewish institution" as a result of the investigation of the plot to bomb two Bronx synagogues and "throughout this period the targeted institutions were never at risk." Here's the group's statement, which also lauds the FBI and the New York City Police Department for their work on the case:
Law enforcement agencies notified SCN that as a result of a nearly year long investigation, members of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, New York City Police Department, and the New York State Police executed an arrest this evening of four suspected domestic terrorists that were planning to attack 2 Jewish synagogues and the Jewish Community Center all located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx in New York. The investigation determined that four suspected homegrown terrorists planned to obtain weapons and explosives including anti-aircraft weapons to target U.S. military aircraft as well as the Jewish institutions.
Throughout the undercover investigation, the law enforcement officials determined that the individuals involved were not part of a broader network and were kept under close surveillance. Law enforcement officials report that all suspects have been taken into custody and there is no further threat to any Jewish institution as a result of this investigation. Throughout this period the targeted institutions were never at risk.
Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice-Chairman of the Conference of Presidents and SCN Co-Chairman stated that the community is assured by the actions taken today by federal and New York law enforcement agencies. We are grateful for the effective and dedicated effort of all law enforcement agencies involved.
