What would Hillel say
One beef I have with Israel's most strident Jewish critics is that, too often, their only identification with Judaism is when they dump on the Jewish state. In Britian especially: Mike Leigh and the late Harold Pinter spent lifetimes running away from their Jewishness, except when it came time to sign petitions.
So, agree or not with Richard Silverstein's petition condemning Israel's actions in Gaza, at least its rooted in Jewish writings. Of course, I know, one could come up with writings that would justify Israel's response. But that would make it a Jewish debate - no small thing.
