As Ami mentioned a couple of weeks back, Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman recently celebrated the brit milah of their son Max Liron. Now the SF Gate brings us the juicier and more hilarious details of the event:
Christina Aguilera insisted on turning her baby son’s bris into a big celebration and decorated her home with penis balloons.
Aguilera, a Catholic, has adopted all the customs and holidays of her husband Jordan Bratman’s religion, and admits she now knows how to celebrate the rite of male circumcision.
The pop star refused to allow the sacred ceremony to become a somber affair and turned the bris into a big party.
She says, “I’m not Jewish, my husband’s Jewish … I never really knew a lot of Jewish people growing up either, so I really had no idea about the bris and all the Jewish holidays. It’s all a learning process for me.
“It was a very sweet experience; we had a lot of close friends come over and experience the bris with us.
“We’re such a non-conventional couple, we had a lot of penis balloons everywhere.”

Hey, I’m just glad to hear she is raising her son Jewish! So many of us are marrying outside and not bothering to do so. The balloons are a little, well, over the top, but it’s a beginning!
One little problem.
She admits that she’s not Jewish, so the kid isn’t either.
There is no “Bris.”
Circumcision, yes, bris, no.
only if you’re an orthodox stickler. Reform and conservative recognize patrilineal offspring.
Conservative does NOT recognize patrilineal descent, but even the most stringent of orthodox would recognize a brit milah if the child were converted and they pledged to raise him Jewish.
The baby isn’t Jewish because even though he had a bris Christina is a Gentile. He will have to undergo a conversion later on to become a Jew. If Jordan wanted Jewish children he should have married a Jewish woman.
Christina is a phony who couldn’t care less about Judaism. Her “Jewish” weddings was a joke and so is her “adopting” of Jewish customs and holidays.
The real tragedy is that frauds who call themselves Rabbis are breaking Jewish law for money.
At the very least, if he decides to have a formal Orthodox conversion when he’s older, he only needs to get pricked instead of snipped.
Funny that the writer would think a brit is a “somber” affair to begin with (although I guess it is for the baby).

Christina Aguilera is not Jewish nor is her son by any standards. I guess anyone can call themselves Jewish and emulate selective Jewish practices. It is still mostly a free world. I don’t think she is a phony because she is not claiming to be Jewish. She is obviously just trying to have fun and get some free publicity. She is just treating it as a fad much like Madonna. Maybe she’ll put a star of David atop her Christmas tree.

Boy, you guys are a tough crowd. She’s not claimng to be anymore than she is. I give her credit for trying. No one is in her head - no one knows what her motives are, nor is it anyones business.
Would you all rather she had the child christened and completely shut the Jewish door?
That was the boy’s conversion. If it was good enough for the sons of Abraham and Moses, it ought to be good enough for the Conservatives.
Orthodox and Chassids don’t consider the children of Abraham, Moshe, or anyone else outside their shuls to be Jewish.
