Check out this audio dispatch from Ben Harris, who is one of two JTA reporters at this week’s biennial convention of the Union for Reform Judaism. It’s a politically active, extremely liberal crowd of several thousand Jews — and, not surprisingly they’re buzzing in the hallways about the elections and cheering in the auditoriums about the need to stop any more conservative judges from getting on to the Supreme Court.

Hello, the only
comment that i would like to post, is in regards Too Obama as our next Pres. I Believe, in this day & age, we NEED a man who is VERY sensitive of the People’s needs in this “TRYING TIME”. I Honestly Believe, mostly due to ALOT of “Fervent Prayer”, & GOD brought Obama too my mind, everytime.
I just keep in the
conscious, the NEED we americans have right here in our own backyard, but that goes unsaid, we have alway’s opened our ports too “ALL”. Obama has been in politics most of his life, & he has alot of FRESH input, that will HOPEFULLY bring about change’s in our Diplomacy. I Believe that only our FATHER GOD, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, & HIS HOLY SPIRIT can bring the ONLY change, a “NEW HEAVEN & EARTH”, all old will pass away, behold all is NEW. I myself am SICK reading about SMALL BABIES starving to death, by the thousands in Africa. Our GOD is a GOD OF LOVE, & HE only want’s the BEST for HIS Chosen, the one’s that have a TRUE relationship with their CREATOR, & JESUS CHRIST made ALL that is seen, & unseen. I only Pray that my SAVIOR will return shortly, & STOP all this evil.
Most American Jews are Liberals! They support liberal initiatives! What a surprise!
Of course not all of us are political liberals. Thank goodnes for at least a small diversity of opinion.
GOD will have HIS way regardless of what we do. What we are witnessing is written in the Bible, ie: The Word of GOD. We must pray that the LORD JESUS have HIS way. It is only recently Christians have begun to vote in elections. We believe in The ONE GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob -JESUS, ie: JEHOVAH is SALVATION.
When one votes, one should also put first what the Bible has to say about 1) abortion, 2) homosexuality, 3) same-sex marriage, 4) illegal immigrants ??? (Obey those that have the rule over you-the U.S. Gov’t) that’s an oxymoron ie: either you’re legal or you’re not; either you’re an immigrant or you’re not. There is no such thing as illegal immigration, only illegal occupation !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a diversity of opinion within the reform movement. As a cantor serving a reform congregation in the Atlanta area I know that to be the case.
It is unfortunate the word “liberal” has taken on such negative connotations because to be truly liberal means to accept, respect, and be open to a diversity of opinions and beliefs. Many of us are politically left of center on certain issues and to the right of center on others. The Reform Movement has a truly wide umbrella covering congregations that are more on the “classical reform” side to those that are very “traditional”. Within those many congregations across the planet are also people with many diverse political views and opinions. If the biennial clamors for social justice, respect for human rights, a negotiated end to conflict and war then it will speak for the majority ( I believe). If it starts to become more political and geared toward supporting one candidate or another it will not be good for the movement as a whole.

Michael Tejada please be careful who and what you pray for. Have a look at this site and maybe you will change your oppinion about Obama, he is anti-Semetic, I believe he is a wolf in sheep clothing.http://www.israpundit.com/2007/?p=6770
Beware of Barak Obama–He is not good for Israel or for Jews. His Muslim background is dangerous.
Am in complete agreement of your take on Obama.
The people who are touting him as the saviour of our country are willing to risk anything and are so naive and ignorant.
Notwithstanding the fact that I am supporting Senator Clinton’s campaign seeking the Democratic Party designation, I must say that there is absolutely no reason to believe that Senator Obama is not, and will not continue to be, a proper supporter of Israel. Let us not discriminate against any person because of the person’s “Muslim background”.

The 1885 Pittsburgh Platform of Reform Judaism
5. We recognize, in the modern era of universal culture of heart and intellect, the approaching of the realization of Israel s great Messianic hope for the establishment of the kingdom of truth, justice, and peace among all men. We consider ourselves no longer a nation, but a religious community, and therefore expect neither a return to Palestine, nor a sacrificial worship under the sons of Aaron, nor the restoration of any of the laws concerning the Jewish state.
Pittsburgh Platform: one of the truly sick departures from true Judaism. Even gentiles can point to it and say: ‘now THIS is an important document’. Pure unadulterated nonsense that will haunt us forever.
We want Moshiach NOW! To our true home Yerushlayim!
