Responding to Beinart

Peter Beinart has the blogosphere and Jewish communal figures spinning with his new essay suggesting that Jewish groups and Israeli policies are to blame for what he describes as the increased alienation that many young American Jews feel when it comes to Israel.

shushan,

Someone has to adjust your comments and your benighted thought process.

If you have nothing to do but count the paragraphs in my comments you are indeed in bad shape and I mourn for a Jew lost in a nightmare of hate.

shushan,

I do not agree that collective punishment has any moral, ethical or legal basis if collective guilt cannot be shown.

Racism is as racism does.. being a Jew and a racist is a contradiction that can only exist in minds rotted by excessive paranoia.

The wish to “send the Arabs back to whence they came” is in reality impossible even were it possible and to Israel’s lasting benefit,

A poor old lady of ninety has just now resigned her position as a

White House corespondent because of her comment that the Jews should return to Europe, etc., etc. She has the excuse of her age, what is your excuse?

The comments of shushan dennis have begun to cause my to worry about his health. I know that it is not JTA’s policy to open it’s blogs to flaming, I will do my utmost to restrain myself.

I thought that this blog’s comments were to relate to Mr. Beinart’s call for reflection on the reasons for young American Jews losing a sense of belonging to the greater Jewish brotherhood, including Jews living in Israel.

Quoting from shushans offering of 26, May, we read:

“ Ami

Here is another question of mine you can ignore.

which branch of the IDF did breinart serve in? The same for ALL those asked to comment on breinarts comments?

If none of these ever lived in israel or risked their lives serving in the idf,ask yourself, do they really care about israel or are they just a bunch of stereotypical jewish pseudointellectuals?

I know the answer, do you?

How do shushan’s comment answer the nature of the content of Mr. Beinart’s article? Does shushan live in Israel? Should he be allowed to?

I do live in Israel; I did serve in the IDF ground forces in three wars.

My kibbutz is 1.7 miles from the Gaza border, and yes, I’ve had my windows blown out during one of the many hundred qassam attacks in and around the kibbutz..

shushan refuses to accept that criticism of the current policies of Israel’s bad joke of a government are not necessarily criticism of the very fact of Israel, and the desire to see it well governed.

Shushan Dennis, if you “never heard of any of these people” you are

absolutely disqualified to publish your opinion about Beinart’s essay

or anything else. Your “Transfer is the answer” just confirms it. You

should really keep your opinions for your friends in the neighborhood

bar, or the shul in the next street.

Usually, whatever the conglomeration of noisy data, you can expect Leon Wieseltier to bring to it his own distinctive brand of fluffy sensibility-mongering. Not this time. Beinart’s ‘shock and awe’ analysis really hit home, forcing him off the deep end and into a histrionic response. This is because – as has been noted by pundits – the only thing Mr. Wieseltier actually believes in, is (Marty) Peretz-style advocacy for Israel. The result, as displayed above, is a reaction of batsh.t panic on Wieseltier’s part, made up of equal parts denial, spastic rhetoric, and juvenile name-calling.. Welcome to Leon the Literary Lion’s unplugged ‘dark night of the soul.’
