There’s a lot of blog-o-buzz about Christiane Amanpour’s new job, anchoring ABC’s this week, and the slam she got Tuesday morning by veteran Washington Post TV critic Tom Shales.

Disclaimer: we have never been fans of Ms. Amanpour. However, her interview with a Hamas-founder’s-son-convert-to-Christianity (broadcast a couple weeks ago by CNN and never again) was TRULY astounding. We’d venture a guess that the source of the attacks against her are Muslim-inspired.

Allen Razlow: Can you not see the irony that your statement, “incredulous when Islam gets upset at cartoons of their Prophet, we then go bananas when anything Jewish or Israeli is depicted negatively?” actually proves the critics’ point? Just as Amanpour’s documentary conflated fundamentalist Jewish settlers to be representative of most if not all religious Jews, your statement conflates Jews “going bananas”—by writing messages in blogs etc.—to “Islam gets upset at cartoons”—and expressing that upset in burning and killing. Well, had Muslims expressed their upset at the cartoons merely by making blog entries, nobody would be talking about it four years later, now would they.

I think it’s you who needs to lighten up allen, educate yourself and find better analogies.

Oy! Can we lighten up a little Ron? Incredulous when Islam gets upset at cartoons of their Prophet, we then go bananas when anything Jewish or Israeli is depicted negatively? How can we expect our voice to be heard when we act like such babies. Grow up, read some Chelm stories, and let’s rise above this trivia. Everyone knows its not about the Lulav. As for “normative Jews”, there are millions of “normative Muslims” too, and neither are given much airtime. Instead of whining about poor journalism, go set an example. This ain’t it.

Indeed, the teaser made me crazy (although I can’t say for sure if she was responsible): Al Qaeda recruits in training; a Sunday morning TV evangelist preaching hellfire; and a Hasid shaking a lulav. Because lulavs are deadly weapons, I guess.

“God’s Warriors” was also premised on the idea that when you come right down to it, there’s no difference between Muslim, Christian and Jewish religous zealots. That’s a little like a documentary on corporate fraud that focuses on Enron, AIG, and those NYC cabbies who’ve been overcharging.
