A shekel, in the classic Biblical context, is a unit of mass. 1 shekel is equal to 180 grains. As 480 grains comprise a Troy ounce, 400 shekels would be the equivalent of 150 Troy ounces. The price of silver at the current time is $18.40/oz. Thus, 400 shekels would actually cost $2,760 today. So I don’t know where they got that calculation.
