To follow your line of reasoning, Mr. Paige, isn’t it strange that Fox News hasn’t used their “bigoted instincts “ to attack the Jews, since it would be clearly in their interest to do so. After all, what do American Jews offer the “bigots “ at Fox News? 80% of us voted for Obama and proudly affirm our “Liberal” credentials.

You seem to prefer the known anti-Semites who crowd around President Obama. We don’t have to worry in their case that they might someday use their bigoted tactics on us. We already know, if we are not too blind to see and hear what they have said and continue to say about us, and more to the point, about ISRAEL.

The reason why Jews are leery of Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush, Dobbs, etc...is because we know that the folks who are willing to use bigoted instincts against any group to whip up their audience, could very well some day use those same tactics to foment hatred against Jews, if it serves their interest. Today, the target for Fox News and Dobbs might be Gays, or Latinos, but tomorrow it could be us, because this is what they do.

If Glenn Beck is a demogogue, then Barack Obama is a master demagogue, judging by his speeches.

The difference is that when Beck makes a mistake he acknowledges it, while when Obama makes a mistake he spins it.

It was clear to me who Obama was when he told AIPAC that Jerusalem should remain the undivided capital of Israel, and the next morning, when the Arabs didn’t like it, he reversed himself.

Can you say “Manchurian Candidate”? I knew you could.

Beck is indeed a demagogue, as has been pointed out, but he’s also an entertainer. He doesn’t PRETEND to be a serious news outlet, but an extension of talk-radio style entertainment.

It was a silly comment, but I’ve disagreed with Jewish friends still in the US. He may have been trying to co-opt Jewish holidays for his own political ends, but this guy does that kind of thing all the time! The portion of his audience not watching it as car-crash TV (I’ve watched myself) may like it, but I’m sure nobody will let it endanger the integrity of the event.

Sorry, Mr. Brownstein, but I just couldn’t let your comparison of Glenn Beck to Julius Streicher go by. I am a Holocaust survivor from Berlin, Germany, and I want to tell you something: you have some nerve! Your arrogance makes my blood boil. I wonder if you have any idea of what it was like to be a Jew iin Nazi Germany with the likes of Julius Streicher. And you accuse Glenn Beck of being on the lunatic fringe!

What high-minded people like you can’t seem to understand is that when you’re dealing with an administration that employs secrecy and smear and hardball tactics, you’ve got to wise up and fight back just as hard. And if you’re unwilling to come down from your intellectual ediface in order to awaken and inform the American people, then you might as well give up right now. Glenn Beck, through his much- maligned- by- you format, is finally revealing the other side of the administration’s propaganda to the American people. Too bad you don’t approve of his method.

What is it about “progressive” Jews that makes them see red every time some conservative American expresses solidarity with the Jewish people or their religion? The wrong people? Why?

While the rate of assimilation is picking up speed and Jewish numbers are dropping precipitiously, a friendly gesture by a conservative commentator sends you to paraxisms? While your children (often products of mixed marriages) are exposed to a continuous barrage of anti-Israel harrangues by their professors, you are worried about the Glenn Becks and Rush Limbaughs? At least the last two are not virulent anti-Semites and enemies of Israel.

Yet, the “liberals,” much admired by the “enlightened” Jewish community support policies of making nice with Iran and “reaching out” to the Muslim world (who, by the way, consider these gestures a sign of weakness and surrender) take for granted that their Jews will continue to give them their votes. Very strange.

There’s something definitely rotten in the cucoo land of Jewish America.

Sue, don’t you realize how inane your point is? People did not come to America from Eastern Europe at the turn of the 19th century to escape socialism. There was none. Russia was a fascist monarchy; the pogroms of Eastern Europe were not the actions of socialists, but the actions of nationalists like Glenn Beck. He panders to our lowest denominators. The successes of the children of those Eastern European immigrants was in large part due to the educational opportunities that emerged in the wake of FDR - not Herbert Hoover! Fear mongering evokes emotional reactions, but Beck’s rhetoric has far more in common with populist utterings of Huey Long and Klansmen.

It’s too bad so many people have forgotten what has made this country great and why all of our families were desperate to get here from Eastern Europe at the turn of the 19th/20th Century.

Cheryl, you and I are usually on the same page, but not when it comes to Glenn Beck. The man’s a demagogue. I don’t trust leftists as far as I can throw them; but I don’t trust the Limbaugh/Beck/Hannity ilk, either. They remind me of Julius Streicher, and my hero was Edward R. Murrow. What we have in American politics today is a converging of people toward the extremes. It’s like having someone who makes $2000 and someone who makes $200,000 a year and claiming the average income is $110,000. Today’s centrists are missing. It’s only when we add the extremes and divide by the number that we get a centrist average. The rise of Fox News has nothing to do with good journalism; it’s about the homogeneity of the right-wind lunatic fringe versus the heterogeneity of its opposite extreme. Bush got his Congressmen and Senators to vote in lock-step; Obama never will. Beck’s Yom Kippur pitch is about as authentic as Limbaugh’s description of Obama’s America - black kids beating up white kids, with approval. The enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend.
