Your thesis has an antithesis: also a “cultural” one; but it is NOT a Christian.one, “monomaniacal” or otherwise. The cultural context for the speech clearly demonstrates that “internal validation” is not, nor ever has been, the problem; rather, “external validation” - as close as next door on all three, inimical sides! - continues to be so, and the speech did nothing to counter it in specifically unique,as in BIBLICAL, terms.

Ok Ron. You got me. We are all stupid and you are the smart one. So, in the next Passover dinner when the time comes to sing the Four Son, I will mention your name instead of the Wise Son. Because only you got what Obama was saying. Only you. Thousands of people, if not hundreds of thousands, including leading journalists (many of whom are from the left), respectable authors and simple Israelis like me basically… misunderstood the words of the President of the USA. Sorry we are not as smart like you Ron. Or worse, sorry that we have been lying (isn’t that what you have accused us of?) even people like Aluf Benn, not a guy you will find having a beer with Avigdor Liberman and his right-wing party… even Aluf Benn? Lying?… Mmm. Interesting).

You see Ron, for not–that-intelligent-people like me, words are nothing but sounds until we associated them with an object, a feeling or an act. So with that in mind, lets us review your assertion again, shall we?

Obama said, among other things, that “…the recognition that the aspiration for a Jewish homeland is rooted in a tragic history that cannot be denied.”

When someone says ‘tragic history’ the first thing that comes to mind – the first thing that people like me (and especially people from my father’s and grandfather’s generation) associate ‘tragic history’ with is… the Holocaust! It is also very clear that Obama meant the Holocaust when he ended the sentence with “cannont be denied” since, as I am sure you know, some of our enemies are trying to do exactly that – deny the Holocaust! Secondly, when X is rooted in Y, according to Merriam Webster (one source), that Y “is an origin or source” of X. Taken together, dear Ron, to us, Israelis - to people like my dad and mom and to families that have been through the holocaust and to those who have not… Obama’s statement can NOT have any other meaning or association but to say Israel (aspiration for a Jewish homeland) has its origin (rooted) in holocaust (tragic history).

Now, I can imagine what you are saying… what about this “bond” that Obama was talking about. That context Ron does not negate from the fact that the linkage, as I explained above, was made.

So… I don’t know how much more clearly I can explain the above to someone as intelligent as you. So let me try your way:

Obama. Did. Link. The Holocaust. To. Israel’s founding. Period. Full Stop.

At this point, if I were you, (you don’t mind if someone as ‘stupid and lair’ like me would give your honor advice, right?) but just in case, here is one on the house. Put your arrogance aside and stop telling the majority of us what to think and feel when we hear something that sooo clear. You can surly give us your perspective. Bekef (as we say in Hebrew). But to tell us that we are lairs… wow. You got me, Aluf Benn and many others that would otherwise agree with you and the President of the United States. On this bond issue though, you and The President are wrong and to call us lairs is not only wrong but also not smart.

Thanks in advance. As promised, next Passover your name will be associated with the wise son. Cheers.

I hope that someone sends this to David Harris of the AJC as he continues to labor under the same misapprehension as Aluf Benn.
