      <description>Voters in California decided a number of issues, presented as Propositions, alongside the presidential ballot last November. The whole country knows about the controversial gay marriage Proposition 8. But most non&#45;Californians do not know that at the same time Californians voted against gay marriage, they also voted to extend rights to chickens, pregnant pigs and beef&#45;raised&#45;for&#45;veal by a landslide vote. Oh, yes they did! That was a big &#8220;NO&#8221; for the rights of human beings and a &#8220;YES&#8221; for the rights of farm animals.


It&#8217;s like the story of the woman jogging in southern California who was killed by a mountain lion a few years ago. The fund set up for the slain cougar&#8217;s orphaned pups received more donations than the fund for the woman&#8217;s orphaned children. Ethic Soup blog has a good article on the propositions at:
