Reports yesterday that Richard Haass had been chosen to be Barack Obama’s Middle East envoy were apparently incorrect. According to the New York Times:

Mr. Haass, who is the president of the Council on Foreign Relations, said he was flattered by the attention but had not been approached, according to his spokeswoman.

Most of these critics (e.g., Cohen, Kristoff, et.al.) seem to blame Israel for a ‘disproportionate’ response to Hamas’s Islamist terrorism. They display moral and intellectual confusion as is apparent from their failure to offer what they deem would be an effective appropriate response. Should Israel simply respond to the random 7,000 missiles aimed by Hamas at their civilian population by responding in kind? After all, that would be ‘proportional’. By that measure, the U.S. response to the bombing of Pearl Harbor by destroying Japan ( and Germany) was clearly disproportionate. Of course, the American response to the murder of 3,000 innocents on 9/11 with the bombing and invasion of Afghanistan is also completely disproportionate. These so-called intellectuals should wake up and recognize that Hamas and other radical Islamists are today’s anti-Semitic Nazis and there is no alternative to destroying them. And just as the German people brought the Nazis to power through democratic elections and supported Hitler’s agenda, so the Palestinians in Gaza have elected and support Hamas’s murderous Jew hatred. The Palestinians deserve the same consideration that the Allies gave to the German people in World War II. Carter, Cohen, Kristoff, and the rest of their ilk are de facto Nazi (i.e., Hamas) sympathizers.
