Cantor: Jewish tendency to vote Democratic ‘bane of my existence’
Eric Cantor tells CBS' 60 Minutes the Jewish tendency to vote Democratic has been the "bane of my existence." He's kidding, a little, I think.
More seriously, he is introspective on the topic, blaming his Republican antecedents in part, for not reaching out to immigrants, and crediting "Tikkun Olam" for what he suggests is the Jewish attachment to preserving entitlements as they are.
He expands on this, offering a Republican take on "Tikkun Olam," letting Americans help the poor through charity, as opposed to taxation.
Here he is, taking the Obama admininstration to task on its Middle East policies, saying the president has sent Israel "mixed signals."

Cantor. Perhaps it is you who are the bane of our existence. There are 12 Jewish senators, and 25 or so Jewish Representatives. All are Democrats or Independents except one. You are the only one who is a Republican.
Thank God that as a Representative, you aren’t very representative of Jews.
Our history of tithing - obligatory giving a percentage of one’s earnings - goes back as far as Genesis. And we also have an obligation of charity - as in those ‘Pishkehs’ that we all put money into.
You are entitled to your point of view, but in congress, as in Jewish life, you are in a vanishingly small minority.

The man is living in a fantasy world. “letting Americans help the poor through charity” is codetalk for “force poor people to beg for alms”. If these people had their way we would be like the 3rd world. Poor people, disabled, sick and mentally ill thronging in the filthy streets. But no prob, the rich people all live in highrises and gated communities.
