Sean Goldman, coming back to Chanukah
It turns out that David Goldman, the father of Sean Goldman, he boy at the center of the Brazil-U.S. custody dispute is Jewish.
We've informally wondered for as long as this has been going on, but have not pressed it, because it didn't seem an issue.
It became an issue in today's New York Times coverage of Sean's release (finally) to his father:
Sean’s Brazilian family had criticized court rulings that compelled the handover on Christmas Eve. Ms. Apy [Patricial Apy, David Goldman's lawyer] pointed out that Sean was originally raised in a “religiously blended household” — his mother was Catholic, his father Jewish.
“I believe that he will enjoy both holidays,” she said.
So, it sounds like a belated Chanukah for Sean.

Brazilian family of Sean did not approve the marriage of David and Bruna. And of course one of the main reasons was that David had Jewish even if only by his father. That was never commented in public but we belong to ishuv always knew that the grandfather of Sean did not like Jews. We do not know if the Goldman family follows Judaism, but whatever their religion we hope he reached happiness with his true family, which currently is only your father. The Brazilian court acted properly, and it became clear that her grandmother is out of state to replace normal parents. So to Sean and for everybody, chanuká sameach and Merry Christmas with peace and shalom
