UJC likes Sebelius
The Obama administration will reportedly nominate Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as secretary of health and human services secretary on Monday (after Tom Daschle dropped out over tax problems last month). William Daroff, vice president of public policy and director of the United Jewish Communities' Washington office, says the selection is a good one, noting Sebelius' frienship with the Kansas Jewish community:
We commend President Obama's nomination of Governor Sebelius as Secretary of the Department of Health & Human Services. Throughout her years in public service,Governor Sebelius has had a deep and abiding friendship with the Kansas Jewish community. In addition to frequent expressions of support for a strong US-Israel relationship, Governor Sebelius has been a key leader in advocating for Jewish social service agencies in Kansas. We look forward to continuing our close working relationship as she takes over the reigns at HHS, an agency of great importance to UJC/Federations of North America's national network of social service agencies.
