Rabbis for Obama
More than 300 rabbis from across the country and across the denominations are publicly backing Barack Obama for president. According to a press release, Rabbis for Obama is a "grassroots effort" founded by two rabbis from Obama's home state of Illinois, Rabbi Sam Gordon of Wilmette, and Rabbi Steven Bob of Glen Ellyn, and includes prominent figures such as University of Judaism rector Rabbi Elliot Dorf, former Central Conference of American Rabbis president Rabbi Janet Marder and Rabbi Burton Visotzky, professor at the Jewish Theological Seminary. Also on the list, named as one of the organization's vice chairs, is Rabbi Ethan Tucker – stepson of the head of the honorary Senate rabbis for McCain, Joe Lieberman.
The rabbis write that Obama "has been inspired by Jewish values such as Tikkun Olam and the pursuit of justice, and he is deeply committed as well to a civil discourse between opposing arguments." They also note the smear campaign against the Democrat and say "we feel it is our duty as Jewish leaders to fight for the truth and against Lashon Hara."
The full letter and list of signatories is here:
Dear Friends:As rabbis who believe that Barack Obama is the best candidate to be President of the United States, we have formed "Rabbis for Obama" as a grassroots organization of rabbis from all movements and backgrounds. We join together to support Senator Obama for President, and we do so in the belief that he will best support the issues important to us in the Jewish community.
Some of us know Senator Obama personally, and we recognize that he has been inspired by Jewish values such as Tikkun Olam and the pursuit of justice, and he is deeply committed as well to a civil discourse between opposing arguments. We also know that Senator Obama will inspire young people, both in the Jewish community and the wider American community, to become more involved in improving this country and repairing the world.
We know that Barack Obama's longstanding, stalwart support for Israel is a testament to his own principles as well as the strong bi-partisan pro-Israel movement in America, and we fear that the attempts by some to use Israel as a wedge issue against him - unjustifiably - is dangerous in that it politicizes the pro-Israel position. Most importantly it has completely distorted Senator Obama's record. With his tough but pragmatic approach to Iran, Senator Obama is in the best position to restore faith in America as a leader in the fight against serious threats to Israel, our allies, and the United States.
Senator Barack Obama inspires in us the hope for an America once more called to its best values. We know him to be a man of incredible integrity, born of a deep and abiding spiritual faith based on the teachings of the Hebrew Prophets, and committed to achieving a world of peace with justice for all people.
We are fully aware that a smear campaign against Senator Obama has been waged in the Jewish community, and we feel it is our duty as Jewish leaders to fight for the truth and against Lashon Hara. Senator Obama has been viciously attacked using innuendoes, rumors, and guilt by association, and we urge our fellow American Jews to judge Senator Obama based on his own record and the clear statements he has made about his personal beliefs and principles. Continuing efforts to defame him and distort his record help perpetuate a deeply disturbing political process in our country.
We hope that the members of the American Jewish community will seek to learn more about the Senator, his story, and his positions on issues. Senator Obama's record and background clearly demonstrate that he shares our commitment to change the direction of this country, both at home and around the globe. Thank you,

Making the Case for McCain/Palin in 2 minutes
On Iran
Today’s Iranian leaders repeatedly declare their desire to “wipe Israel off the map” and are close to having the capacity to do so through their development of nuclear weapons. McCain and Palin have demonstrated a much clearer willingness to thwart Iran’s nuclear ambitions than have Obama and Biden. During the first presidential debate McCain emphasized the need to confront Iran in order to prevent a second Holocaust. In stark contrast, the Obama and Biden records and rhetoric suggest that they would take a much softer stand on Iran and would oppose preemptive military action even after the exhaustion of all non-military options.
In 2007 Obama refused to support a Senate Resolution designating Iran’s Republican Guard unit a terrorist organization. He condemned the resolution as “excessively provocative” and introduced legislation that use of force against Iran is unauthorized by Congress. Obama’s foreign policy “expert” Biden was reported in the Israeli press to have warned that country’s leaders “Israel will have to reconcile itself with the nuclearization of Iran. Obama has called Iran a small problem for the U.S. and has repeatedly expressed his willingness to sit down with the Iranian dictator without preconditions, a position that was recently praised by right-wing columnist Pat Buchanan who, like the Iranian president, has denied the magnitude of the Holocaust. “I think Barack is right, we ought to talk to the Iranians,” Buchanan said.
• On Israel
While Obama voices support for Israel on the campaign trail, there is substantial evidence that his administration policies would be much less supportive of Israel’s interests than that of McCain. Obama’s long term associations with, and support from, enemies of Israel is far more revealing of his genuine views than his more recent speeches to prospective campaign contributors, especially since Jews historically donate about half of all dollars raised by Democrats running for president. These associations include Reverend Wright, Louis Farrakhan, and Jimmy Carter. Pat Buchanan calls his views on Israel, Iran and the Palestinians the same as Obama’s. Last April the terrorist group Hamas publically endorsed Obama and predicted that his pro-Israel campaign rhetoric would quickly evolve after the elections.
As for McCain, former Soviet Dissident and Israeli Cabinet Minister Natan Sharansky provides valuable insight: “I know, personally, McCain for twenty years. He is a person of principle, and he is also a person who has absolutely a great record of supporting Israel. Getting to Obama, there is no record. Nobody can know for sure what will be. It can happen to be good. It can happen to be very bad. It’s a risk.” (Shalom TV, 8/7/08)
• On the Economy
The impetus of the current economic crises was not, as our overseas enemies have argued, primarily due to the failure of our free market economic system. Lenders are not naturally inclined to provide loans to those who are unlikely to pay them back without being pushed to do so by the government. Congressional Democrats have lead the effort to press Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to facilitate these reckless lending practices without adequate oversight, over the frequent objections of the Bush Administration and McCain.
The combined output of a Democratic Congress and a Democratic White House would almost certainly exacerbate rather than cure the economic challenges facing our nation. Now more than ever businesses and entrepreneurs need access to capital but this will be significantly curtailed if capital gains taxes are raised, a cornerstone of the Obama plan. As a Republican and fiscal conservative McCain can help rein in the Democratic Congress that will predictably use the present economic downturn as an excuse for spending excesses and tax policies that have been shown historically to depress entrepreneurship, innovation, investment, and hard work—the proven ingredients to an economic recovery.
• On Abortion
Many Jewish “swing” voters who were leaning towards McCain claim to have reconsidered their vote following the Palin nomination, largely out of fear that her election might somehow result in a nationwide outlawing of abortions. This fear is entirely without basis. Supreme Court appointees require Senate approval and the Democratic Senate would resist the appointment of Justices with views that differ markedly from their own. Even assuming, for arguments sake, that a President had the opportunity to appoint several Supreme Court justices opposed to abortion and that Roe v. Wade were overturned. This would not result in a nationwide ban on abortion. Instead it would merely give states the right to place limits on abortion that were held unconstitutional under Roe. The likely impact if Roe were overturned would be that some states would have more restrictive abortion laws than others just as it was prior to the decision in Roe in 1973. Women uncomfortable with abortion restrictions in their state would be free to challenge them at the state level or to travel to states with more permissive laws. In short, the president’s ability to impact abortion rights on a federal level is actually quite limited.
These 300 Rabbi(t)s belong to the blame America/Blame Israel/blame the Jews first crowd. Many of them are lesbians, leftists, and communists. I have heard a couple of these rabbis preach. One of them, Rabbi Serrota, in a Yom Kippur sermon, went as far as to blame the Jews for the terrorist acts against them.
In the 1940’s, many of these same rabbis would have been capos, or members of the Judenrat, who made the Holocaust so successful for Hitler.
In the year 70 AD a rabbi/general/traitor named Josephus switched sides and showed the Romans how to breach the walls of Jerusalem.
In the 1960’s, left wing rabbis pushed for racial quotas and affirmative action policies which favored blacks and discriminated against Jews.
Not all rabbis are worms, but there have always been a large number of leftists and traitorous worms in their midst.
- Jonathan E. Grant
There is so much mis-information posted as fact in many of the comments here. As much as I’d like to refute these comments point by point, I’ll pick one: Adam the Cohen (on 9/10) states that Obama is a Muslim. Adam, lying is so Rovian. You should know better.
I am proud to know Rabbi Bob. He is a learned and honorable man.
Jeff, the Kohen
Osama bin Obama was a muslim, and now is a phoney Christian----following the shonda wife’s demands that IF he wants to get elected in Chicago (or elsewhere), he will have to “convert” to Christianity. This is the same shonda wife, who was NEVER proud of America ---EVEN THOUGH her skin color got her FREE TUITION to Princeton and Harvard (while more qualified PAYING Whites were excluded, and discriminated against)
SO---what GREAT ministers did Hussein Obama Jr. choose? Rev Jeremiah (FILTHY BIGOT) Wright, and Rev. Pfleger TWO anti-American, anti-Israel FASCISTS.
To the “jews” and “rabbis” that support the arab-muslim Obama---SHAME ON YOU! You are helping the ENEMIES of the Jewish people.
YOU ARE TRAITORS to Torah, Hashem, and Israel.
When Moshaich comes you will be healed. Until then, you are sick.

What I want to know is why is Obama’s true heritage not being investigated and reported upon?
This is information originated by a Kenneth Lamb.
I just stumbled upon it tonight. I’m not sure if hyperlinks are allowed here, so if you want the source, just copy and paste one of these sentences into google and you’ll find it.
Exceprt:
“Mr. Obama is 50% Caucasian, that from his mother. What those who want Mr. Obama to write history by becoming “America’s first African-American president” ignore is that his father was ethnically Arabic, with only 1 relative - a maternal grandparent, ethnically African Negro.
That means that Mr. Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother’s side, and 43.75% Arabic, and 6.25% African Negro from his father’s side.
The question no one wants to answer - particularly Mr. Obama and his supporters, is, “Why do you think he has an Arabic name? Why does his father have an Arabic name? Why does every ancestor on his father’s side have an Arabic name?”
The answer is obvious: They have Arabic names because his father’s side of the family tree is Arabic.
Need proof? Research the Kenyan records for yourself. You will find that his father was officially classified as “Arab African” by the Kenyan government.”
HOPEFULLY, you and your sick lemming friends will be happy to practice “diversity,” and vote for an arab muslim for President.
When Israel needs help, and “Pres-dent” (G-d forbid) Obama does NOTHING, you can only blame yourselves and similar leftist “Jews.”
Jeff---What is a “Kohen?” Do you mean a “Cohain?” Does your branch of Judaism even recognize Cohanim? Does your branch of Judaism even recognize Torah as the word of Hashem? Does your branch of Judaism desire a “two-state solution (a Final Solution) to the “palestinian” problem? Do you want to split up Jerusalem with the plo/pa?
That is your sainted Obama’s plan---weaken Israel. Internationalize Jerusalem. Establish a stronger arab enemy, and put Jews in the museum of history.
AN EXTINCT PEOPLE.
Seymour Scwartz,
I see little difference in your angry, rabid, “orthodox” based ranting than a jihadist’s bomb. If you think you are Jewish, you are truly delusional. My I suggest that you take a good anger management class or better yet spend some time in therapy. Oh yes, please spend some time trying to understand whatever Jewish texts you might be reading. Next time, some rational discussion which might be more persuasive.
Ralph
These are not Jews that are real Jews, women cannot be Rabbi at a synogogue in true Judaism. Obama has ties to the Nation of Islam who has only one goal, destruction of western democracy and the annihalation of the true Jewish faith… Once again, more sheep blindly walking into the slaughter.
Ralph--
Why don’t you call me a homophobe, islamophobe, racist, sexist and Nazi, too? That is the usual childish tactic of the Left.
Not only are you a likely member of the moron Left, but your actions and foolishness threaten Judaism, Israel, and the USA. I do not know if you are, or consider yourself to be Jewish---or even consider yourself to be observat of ANY religion.----but liberalism is NOT a religion, or even a meaningful substitute for a genuine religion.
You apparently know NOTHING about observant Orthodox Jews and those who lean toward Orthodox (such as myself). I attend an Orthodox synagogue, and can tell you that my political beliefs are virtually identical to the political beliefs of EVERY MEMBER of my Orthodox congregation. We hate and fear the REAL Obama. We support McCain and Palin on most issues. We love America, Torah, the L-rd and Israel. We often have more in common with Evangelical and Observant Christians than we do with liberal, weenie Jews (we respect each other’s religions).
Stop your knee-jerk liberal responses, do some research of Orthodox/Observant Jews (in US and Israel), and realize that not all Jews are useful-idiot liberals. The Torah/Bible should demonstrate to you that G-d is loving, but VERY conservative.
Maybe you should read what Jesse “Hymietown” Jackson just said at a conference in Evian, France. check out 10/14/08 NYTimes or NY Post. Jackson’s son is a director of Obama’s campaign, and Jackson, Sr. is a long-time confidant, and guide for Obama.
Jackson, Sr. essentially said that once Obama is elected (G-d forbid) that Israel and Jews will have NO power---that Jews have had power and influence for too long---and that Obama will neutralize the Jews, and bring “JUSTICE” to the palestinians.
Perhaps that is why the “so-called non-muslim” Obama has tremendous voter and financial support from muslim and arab countries---AND is also supported by Hamas, Hezbollah, PLO/PA, and other arab terror groups. Obama has already been caught receiving millions from improper arab and muslim terrorist sources.
Do some more research, and you will even find that the so-called “palestinian people” are a fiction created by the PLO, East Germany, USSR and North Vietnam, to DE-LEGITIMIZE Israel, and ultimately destroy that nation.
Obama will do his best to ignore Israel, and bring it to oblivion.
You really have a lot of learning to do----like most other “factually blind” Obama supporters.
