Political Tidbits: Obama and McCain on Iran, Hagee on the ‘partially Jewish’ anti-Christ
- CBS argues that exit poll data suggests Jewish support for Hillary Clinton in Democratic primaries may not be a problem for Barack Obama in November.
- Daniel Treiman, of the Forward's Bintel Blog appears to catch J Street distorting the words of Pastor John Hagee, and wonders why – since there's plenty of stuff he's actually said that will offend people. Case in point: The HuffingtonPost reports that Hagee once predicted that the anti-Christ would be partially Jewish, "as was Adolph Hitler."
- Keith Olbermann gives John McCain an "Israelity Check."
- Remember Jeffrey Goldberg's Middle East-focused Q & A with Obama? Well, now he's posted a matching interview with McCain. Plenty of differences to digest (though I think Goldberg overstates some of them), but kudos (again) to Treiman for picking out the most important one: Obama likes Roth, McCain prefers Wouk.
- The Wall Street Journal: Iran, more than the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, has emerged as the defining issue for candidates wooing Jewish-American voters.
- The London Times wonders if Obama can be a friend to Israel if he speaks to Iran.
- The New York Sun reports that in advance of Obama's AIPAC speech, he seems to be moving closer to the GOP view on how and how not to deal with Tehran.
- A new Gallup poll shows a majority of Americans think it's a good idea to meet with Ahmadinejad.

Hagee has spent most of his career fighting anti-Semitism, although I find some things he has said about the Catholic Church distasteful.
Barack Obama surrounds himself with racists, anti-Semites, and Catholic-hating bigots. Specifically, Jeremiah Wright, Michael Pfleger, Louis Farrakhan (Wright and Pfleger both support him), Otis Moss (who praised Pfleger’s racist tirade last week), Al Sharpton, and MoveOn.org. When you put this together with “Dreams From My Father” and Michelle Obama’s thesis, you get a very ugly picture.
I will be voting for McCain and working for Obama’s defeat.
If the majority of Americans believe it’s a good idea to meet with Ahmadinejad, the majority of Americans are idiots. Constitutionally, the President of Iran has little power and does not run the country--every decision he tries to make is subject to approval/disapproval by the mullahs and counsels that actually run the country. Why negotiate with someone who has no power to deliver anything except fiery anti-US anti-semitic rhetoric? Yet negotiating with the Ayatollah is even less likely to produce results. Iran is loving the attention that it’s getting and can’t wait to have the US on its knees, begging for talks and openly plans to use such an opportunity to “humiliate” the US and will refuse to stop breaking IAEA regulations and Security Counsel resolutions. There’s only so much you can accomplish with a sunny attitude and inspiring speeches. Middle East peace is not one of those things.
I like Omaba. But i hope he does not give more ligitimacy to dictators of Iran, Cuba and North Korea by talking to them. He has to remember by talking to a dictator he is not doing that nation a favor; He is making life easier for that dictator and in this way letting the dictator to screw people with less international pressure.
Sir - If you don’t favor Obama, say so, period, and for your real reasons. There is no credible association with the figures you cite as he develops his leadership, that you can reasonably determine through perusing media coverage of the issues (including his recent departure from his old church for reasons including its negative regard for our country’s potential) and from listening to and watching the man himself. My sense is that Obama believes in and will be working for the collective interests of the polity more than any politician of the past or present. This will make for a difficult agenda if we are intransigent in our individual and group shibboleths and interests despite an opportunity to combine, cooperate, and improve as an extraordinary complex of peoples sharing citizenship. The old guard of every stripe is being eclipsed and it can and should be good for the country. McCain is not up on this, even if he is a decent and relatively independent pol.
The world is far different than what Obama thinks. Talking to known mad mans like Ahmadinajad is no different than respecting Hitler.
Obama’s muslim bond is disturbing. some his supporters and the church he attended is alarming. As a democrat, I will not vote for him.
Read his words in a book he has written, Audacity of Hope; “I will stand with the Muslims should the winds shift in an ugly direction.” This statement should be taken into consideration.
