The Wright Stuff
By Ben Harris on Apr 28, 2008 in Barack Obama, Presidential Race |
Some months back JTA sought an interview with Barack Obama’s controversial ex-pastor Jeremiah Wright. We were told by Trinity United Church of Christ that the pastor wasn’t giving interviews. Well, Wright is staying quiet no longer.
On Sunday night, he got a standing ovation from 10,000 attendees at an NAACP dinner in Detroit (video here).
Last week, he sat down with Bill Moyers of PBS for an broadcast interview. (Video and transcript here).
And today Wright spoke this morning to the National Press Club in Washington (audio link here.).

Wright is WRONG……….He is a racist if I ever heard one and I hope he just goes away. He is not good for Obama either

Rev. Wright is an effective speaker and articulates, very well, the message of many other ministers in the USA from the 1960s-1970s. If you are shocked by what you hear from him, you have not been listening all these years. I don’t think he has said anything that is out of the ordinary for someone from his background/perspective. He is not going to be the reason I will or will not vote for Sen. Obama.

Rev. Wright has no bearing on Barack Obama and on this election. I don’t always agree with my rabbi either. He’s Barack’s pastor, and Barack can attend any place of worship he chooses. Just as we Jews can, and I’ll tell you, there are some crazy Jewish rabbis out there. Make your decision about Obama by what he says, not by what his pastor says. I will tell you that I support Sen. Obama. I think he is good for the country and good for Jews.

Forget what Obama says- He’s a politician. I’m wondering what kinds of thoughts he’s having after spending the last 20 years with this nut as his spirtual advisor. Rev. Wright does represent the larger black community regardless if 10000 NAACP members applauded him. Those of you who think he has no bearing on Obama are also wrong. Obama is the least friend of Israel of all candidates by a long shot.

I meant to say he does NOT represent the larger community.

You will vote not for J.Wright, but for B.H.Obama?
In the next 4 years you’ll see, how much of Wright is inside of Obama. You’ll pay for this knowledge in the next 4 years, which could be critical in the US history.
Will you buy a car to know, what kind of engine is inside, if any? No payment now! $3,000 off!
Are you ready to buy?

Barack Obama, wife and kids sat through twenty years of sermons. Twenty years where anti white, anti Israel anti USA rhetoric emanated from the mouth of his Pastor, his mentor and his close friend. Are you telling us that Barack and family are pure; their ears heard no evile? Their heart only heard love and great things about America? Mrs. Barack slipped when she said at least twice in public that she now believes in America for the first time. Nothing rubbed off on Barack since his twenties and into his forties?
His Pastor espouse hatred and everyone cheered him on; Barack, how mant times did you cheer?

When brave ministers spoke out against the Nazis and Hitler, they were beaten and thrown into concentration camps. The ministers who supported Hitler were rewarded by the party. You are watching history repeat itself. Speak out against Wright and all other racist ministers like him. Why would I ever vote for someone who sat there for 20 years without a word of protest. Don’t insult my intelligence. Obama agrees with every word Wright has said. Wright is wrong and so is Obama for this country!

….so where’s JTA talking about Obama’s most recent speech? Why is the coverage so overwhelmingly Clinton-biased? I’m really wondering here..

Reverend Wright is worth hearing. Much of what he says rings true to me. It is a rare religious person wno “tells it like it is or how it seems to be to him or her.” Most of what he has said in the last few days has been said many times by many other people. So why the big fuss?
How come the media never got so exercised over the Falwell’s or the Robertsons of the “white church world” and their outrageous statements about abortions, gays and lesbians, HIV/Aids as the cause of the world’s ills? Is it because Wright is black and the others white that the media is so poised to spew its venim on Wright to get at the first serious Black candidate for president?
