Toledo Blade calls out local YMCA/JCC for overpaying employees
The salaries of top employees at the YMCA and Jewish Community Center of Greater Toledo – as well as those of employees in the entire state—are under scrutiny as the YMCA/JCC announced that it will close one of its branches due to overhead outpacing revenue.

Jewish non-profits in Chi-town pay top dollars to top execs
According to Crain’s Chicago, Jewish non-profits in the Windy City aren’t leaving their top execs out to dry.
The CEOs and other top professionals at several Chicagoland Jewish organizations ranked near the top of a list of 2007 compensation packages that the business publication made public in August.
Among CEOs, Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews ranked second on the list ($823,753).
Steven Nasatir of the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago was slotted 10th ($565,116).
And Avrum Cohen of the Jewish Community Centers of Chicago finished 21st ($391,971).
On the list of mid-level executives, several of Nasatir’s lieutenants at the Chicago federation ranked high:
Michael Kotzin, the executive vice president was second on the second-tier list ($578,777)*, and Michael Tarnoff, another executive vice president, ranked 11th ($429,638).
* For those wondering how it’s possible for Nasatir not to be listed as the highest paid employee at the federation, Crain’s Chicago ran the following note with its rankings: “Total compensation is listed as reported to the IRS. It includes salary, employee-benefit contributions, compensation from related parties or organizations, expense accounts and other allowances. It may include deferred compensation plans and at-risk compensation as accounted for according to IRS regulations.”
