First look: The Jewish Agency’s new strategic vision—the actual plan

Until now, though, the actual plan for the agency has been more one of heresay and backroom Power Point presentations. Now, however, Sharansky and his team, working with the agency’s primary funding partners, the Jewish Federations of North America, Keren HaYesod and the government of Israel, the agency has crafted a document that states exactly what the structure of the plan will be. It was presented to the agency’s board of governors at around 11:15 New York time via email, for their review, and when the board of governors meets in Jerusalem starting Sunday will be charged with approving the document. From the Chronicle: Small endowments fared better than large ones in 2009

It’s a small world: According to The Chronicle of Philanthropy, smaller endowments fared better in 2009 than larger endowments. The Chronicle is basing its assertion off a database its staffers created that looked at several hundred nonprofits, their endowed assets and whether they were up and down last year.

Federation officials in Israel to discuss potential changes conversion laws

Some versions of a proposed bill being circulated include a provision that could, in theory, prevent a convert to Judaism, who underwent conversion in Israel or in the Diaspora, from receiving Israeli citizenship under the Law of Return, a proposal the federation system has rejected.

Inside the top-level layoffs at Jewish Federations of North America

The Jewish Federations of North America informed its board of trustees last Tuesday that it was letting go of three senior vice presidents: Rob Hyman, organizational development and stakeholder relations; Eric Levine, development and the Center for Jewish Philanthropy; and Barry Swartz, continental community development and capacity building.
