Opposing Beck isn’t Jewish
To the Editor:
What exactly is "Jewish" about the negative response to Glenn Beck? I understand why liberals/progressives are so opposed to what Beck stands for, but what in Jewish tradition calls forth such a negative response to someone who is clearly an ohev Yisrael, a lover of Israel.
I learned a long time ago in rabbinical school that Judaism is much too nuanced to be identified with any specific school of politics. It's a shame that so many have come to equate it with the politics of the left.

Kalman Panicki seems to think his mind-reading abilities are greater than those vouchsafed to ordinary mortals. Imputing motives is one of the last refuges of the scoundrel.
It is not wise for any Jew,let alone any rational human being to endorse Mr. Beck. In AA,he would be considered a “dry drunk” (he is a self identified alcoholic)for his ongoing paranoid and angry comments. He is a classical right wing populist and does not respond to arguments based on facts and/or reason. His comment on the tragic mass murders in Norway by comparing a democratic party, the Labor party(and its youth camp) to nazi youth camps is pathetic. As a first generation American on my father’s side,I have met many survivors of the Shoah who were already fed up with his past anti Semitic comments about George Soros. Please stop giving this man and his misguided supporters a forum. Michael Kaplan Portland,Oregon

It is very Jewish to oppose an insane fool, AKA rodeo clown, like Beck. He hates America’s health care system when it affects him as a person in treatment but loves it as the best system in the world when he is not ill and reform is backed by sane people. That lack of self realization and sheer lack of sanity is what distresses me.
Beck is not a good man. He is not even a good showman. He is the quintessential right winger who thinks that Hillel was speaking to him when he said, If I am not for me who will be and if not now when.
Beck is for Beck and his professed love of Israel is a way to maintain a steady cash flow stream because he understands that American Jews are anxious to find someone, anyone who will profess an understanding that Jews are not just the world’s longest standing scapegoats but also a people striving for and occasionally attaining greatness no other group has come close to.
